Our fundraising ideas that are a bit different are including the schools. The middle school is selling the bracelets and they also held a "Shade Out JRA" day. All the kids could pay a dollar and then wear their sunglasses all day. All the money raised goes to the walk.

I am doing the standard things so far. Sent emails out on facebook, facebook posts. Sent emails to all I know including at work. Letter campaign to friends and family. I also started a blog. All of the outreach included the fact that my daughter is 4, has JRA and her story. I would like to do more but I am struggling to find economical ideas :)

Due to the frustration of telling people "I have Rheumatoid Arthritis" and having them say things like, "oh, I have arthritis too...I take advil and I feel better, you should try it!" or THE WORST... "You are too young to have arthritis!" I decided to become an advocate for arthritis awareness.

In doing this, I created a charity bracelet called the "Buckle Me Up!" Young Arthritis Awareness Bracelet. It is designed "young and trendy" to SCREAM the message that arthritis has a young face. It is unisex to show that it can happen to anyone. And the 'buckle' is because sufferers have difficulty with daily tasks, like putting on a belt...and it's sometimes embarrassing to ask for help... so the idea is you should turn to someone else and ask to "Buckle Me Up!" which will hopefully really spread the word! $12 from each bracelet sold goes to benefit arthritis research (currently the Arthritis Foundation) and the more worn, the more education on what arthritis really is will hopefully be created! So, you can use this to fundraise for your team as well... any sale that comes in with a message that it is for your team, I will donate the money under your account! My team (the "Buckle Me Up!" Strong & Empowered Team) will be walking with them on June 7th at the Santa Monica arthritis walk, with the launch party for this National Awareness Movement following at Big Dean's on the boardwalk of the Santa Monica pier!

HI-For the past three years my team has had a "Ladies Night Out Shopping Spree". We have many home demonstration companies such as Pampered Chef, Lia Sophia (jewelry) and such, set up tables in my home to sell their products with a portion of their profits donated to the Arthritis Walk. Last year we had 12 vendors, approx. 60 women (and even some husbands) and made over $1500.00. We also did the standard emailing for donations. In total we earned $3500.00. This year we wanted to do something different and bigger. Our team is holding a Candlelight Bowl with dinner and silent auction. We are expecting around 100 people and have been able to get some really great auction items (well over 100). It is being held on April 4th so I will let you know how it turns out.

Here at the National Office of the AF, some of the teams are doing:

Jars filled with candy. $1.00 per guess. Win the jar of candy.

Chili Cook-off ($2.00 entry fee, then sell bowls of chili to people in the office for lunch. I don't remember what the prize is if you win)

Snack cart (bake some treats, then wheel them around at about 3:00 in the afternoon when everyone gets hungry)

Pancake breakfast

I am finding my fundraising moving very slowly as I don't know a lot of people in my area. Because of this- my strategies this time are using email and myspace and facebook a LOT. I am also heading to GFS (like a smaller Sam's without the membership fee) this afternoon because they sell fundraising candy packages and will be taking that to work. I am hanging a poster in my work's window and going to talk to the college that I work in about using their bulletin boards as well.

I would be interested in any other strategies!
